Quendi I live in Ontario but have traveled east and west in this big country. The Newfies are a great people I have worked with and know many of them. There are lots of things to see in our maritime provinces from a tidal bore to a reversing falls to a magnetic hill where you put your car in neutral and roll up hill (optical illusion) and a lot of good food and booze LOL.

I don't know if any other ex dubs on here can remember a talk back at an assembly in the 1970's that said Lecithan was a nice word for blood used by manufacturers. My parents would not eat or allow us to eat products that listed lecithan on thier ingrediants.

Quendi ever travel in Newfoundland? Its like a different language there. Some of the worlds nicest people and thier not to bad when your talking to them one on one, but when you get abunch of them together you need a translater.

Integrity over living a lie....
by Happier inhey to everyone here... so i have never been one for writing much of my feelings down for other people to see.
this however has become so important to me and i may be able to help someone who dares go looking for answers some place other than the jw.org website.
first of all i would like to thank anybody and everybody who had the courage enough to write their experience in the organisation.

"I do feel like I am an honest person and I refuse to live in way that is lying about who I am when I know this is the wrong way of living for me." Thats exactly the way I felt when I got disfellowshipped. A hearty welcome from accross the pond in Canada.

Advertising the District Assembly on the Radio
by RubaDub inis this just a local practice to south florida or is it done in other areas too?.
i'm driving to work last week and on one of the most popular radio stations (primarily talk and politics) they were advertising the district assembly in west palm beach florida for next week.. it was about a 30 second spot and was the typical "everyone is invited ... no collections taken" .... etc.
etc.. is this common in other areas ???.

my first post and some questions
by wallievase inthis is my first post after deciding to finally open an account here after months of 'lurking'.. a couple of issues i want to address-.
i have issues with people who go from being a witness to losing all faith in god or the bible which seems to be the case with some members of this site.
i just don't think you can let any religion change how you view god or the bible.. second-i don't feel the gb are bad people, i think most witnesses including them are misguided by something that has been drilled into their heads since they were little and are actually sincere people.

Welcome wallivase. There are ex elders and maybe a few present elders, bethelites and ex bethalites that post here. I would not be suprised to find members of the governing body lurking and posting here. In my case it was because of a lack of spiritual belief and questioning of everything that hastened my exit from the JWs. It was not something that I questioned after I was disfellowshipped.
I don't know anything about you but I'll bet it must have been difficult for you to put your fist post on here.

Sense of Mortality, Existential Angst and Leaving the Borg
by Frazzled UBM infirstly apologies if i am stating the bleeding obvious or covering something that has already been covered or just showing my ignorance as someone who wasnever a jw - i am new here and relatively new in my exposure to the wbts organisation and its dogma.
the thing that has occurred to me is that born-in jws and middle-age jws must avoid the teenage existential angst of really getting a sense of their own mortaility and the middle age crisis of realizing that their best years are behind and they on the long downhill slide, because they expect to live forever.
i always wondered why teenage jws are goody two-shoes while they are believers and often go off the rails, even as 20 or 30 something adults, when they wake up and i figure that, apart from the fact that they are no longer being told what is right and wrong and all of a sudden have to work it out for themselves, this may related to the expectation that you will not physically die.

Frazzeled, I was a born in and raised and I was disfellowshipped in 1985 after admitting that I believed in evolution. I started asking some serious questions to the wrong people. Anyway the reading of scientific literature which, I used to have to hide from my parents,BTW, cemented my sense of mortality. I have been asking questions my whole life, at least for me science provides many of the answers. I could not imagine what it must be like for a born in JW in thier 40's or 50's or later in life comming to terms with thier own mortality. Thats why I cut the older born in JWs some slack. Life is tough and some people just can't face it.

Something odd just happened when I logged on!
by tornapart ini typed in my name, password and the captcha, expecting to see my name come up in the top right corner and what i actually saw was someone else's name!
(the name was another member of this board).
i looked at it for a few seconds feeling a bit puzzled and not sure what to do about it and as i looked it automatically changed (whithout me doing anything) back to my own name.. has anyone else had this happen to them?
